The Long Road Ahead

Having just returned home from my world tour to wonderful sunny Wellington I decided that it was time for a new challenge. Last year there were some mumblings around work about training for a half marathon. I remember one night down at dockside after work drinks agreeing to be part of this craziness, at least I think I do. I kind of thought the whole thing would have died down by the time I got back. But to my surprise people were keener than ever. So last weekend I did some research and designed a 12 week beginners training programme for us all.

Training starts MONDAY! I proudly announced. Of course Monday is a rest day ;). So training actually starts today although yesterday I did do some work on the treadmill and did Les Mills world famous body pump class. Now I have a sore throat and its raining outside so somehow I have to get my arse out the door for an easy 30 minute run.

Wherein lies the inspiration to use this thing. I figure the more people that know the less likely I am to chicken out. In any case there is nothing else super interesting happening at the moment and I doubt you want to know about the technicalities of international accounting standards.

For your first run, complete a 10 miles run, jog, walk cycle. Do whatever, but complete the distance.

Your subsequent run will be much easier because that first taste of the distance will force conditioning your body and mind.

A build up training is a PITA.
